All Things Eco at GlampEco Manali
More than just India’s first luxury glamping domes, GlampEco Stays in Manali is built with sustainability at its heart. At 2750 m (9000 ft) in the Himalayas, every detail – from our eco-friendly architecture to our zero-waste practices – reflects our deep respect for nature and commitment to responsible tourism.
Mindfully Made with Mud
Our mud rooms are built using natural materials – mud from neighboring sites, bamboo, stones, and hillside slates – offering a sustainable and cozy alternative to conventional construction. The game and dining area features mud walls that keep the space cool in summer and warm in winter, while adding an earthy charm to your stay.
Gently Saying NO to Plastic
At GlampEco Manali, we proudly say no to single-use plastic. From cutlery to bottled water, we replace plastic with eco-friendly alternatives and even discourage the common “Maggi in the mountains” culture that adds waste to fragile valleys. Our stand against plastic is part of a bigger journey – find more ideas in our blog on zero-waste and sustainable travel in the Himalayas.
Sustainable Welcome Kits and Souvenirs
Every guest is welcomed with eco-friendly essentials such as bamboo toothbrushes, toothpaste tablets, recycled travel kits, and plantable notebooks. For keepsakes, we offer handmade treasures like knitted socks, organic lip balms, body butter, and locally baked macarons – sustainable souvenirs that support the Himalayan community.
Geodesic Domes
Our standard and premium luxury glamping domes are not only stylish but also sustainable. Designed to be energy-efficient and resilient to natural challenges, they are constructed with recyclable materials and fitted with low-consumption lighting, making them both eco-conscious and comfortable.
Green and Clean
One of the first things guests notice at GlampEco is the abundance of flowers, greenery, and fruit trees that flourish here. In spring, apple blossoms and a striking cherry tree bring life to the property, creating a serene, eco-friendly Himalayan escape.
Waste Segregation and Recycling
From scratch cooking in our kitchen to mindful recycling, sustainable living is a daily practice at GlampEco. Waste is carefully segregated, recycled, and often repurposed into pots and décor. Our team follows the five Rs of sustainability, ensuring your stay contributes to preserving Manali’s natural beauty. Our recycling and waste practices are part of a bigger picture – learn how sustainable tourism safeguards Manali's beauty in our blog.
Community Impact
At GlampEco, we believe that sustainability also means supporting the people of the Himalayas. By partnering with local women and youth – as guides, artisans, and service providers – we ensure that every GlampEco experience uplifts the local economy, with fair, commission-free opportunities.
Activities & Sightseeing
Local women guide our guests through the mountains, sharing insights on Himachali culture, heritage, and conservation. These immersive experiences not only benefit the community but also deepen guests’ respect for the fragile Himalayan ecosystem.
Local Impact
We create livelihoods by connecting guests directly with local services and products, all commission-free. Women and youth receive training to lead tours, craft products, and provide hospitality – ensuring skills that empower them long-term.
Organic Products
Our guests can take home organic souvenirs made from Himalayan ingredients like apricot oil and honey. Produced by local women under the brand “Himkaya Himalayan Wonders”, these eco-friendly products are made, packaged, and labeled with care.
Adventure Activities
Local youth guide our trekking and hiking tours in the Himalayas, building both awareness of nature and a sustainable income source for themselves. These adventures are a favorite for guests looking to connect with the mountains authentically.
Employment
Every staff member at GlampEco comes from the local community. We provide training in hospitality, language, and soft skills, enabling many to grow and later start their own businesses in tourism and F&B.
Travel Services
All travel services for GlampEco's guests are run by local youth, offering them a consistent income and giving guests an authentic, community-based travel experience.
Dairy & Dairy Products
Our dairy – from milk to cheese, ghee, and cream – comes from nearby farms where cows are well cared for. Organic waste from our kitchen is fed back to the cattle, completing a sustainable local food cycle.
Local Produce
Most of the ingredients in our kitchen come from nearby Himalayan farms – fresh honey, ghee, cheese, vegetables, pulses, and more. Guests often connect directly with producers to purchase these wholesome Himalayan ingredients.
Local Cuisine
Food is an integral part of every GlampEco stay. We encourage guests to experience authentic Himachali cuisine by dining at local gems like Kalzang Dhaba, where owners share the stories behind traditional dishes, spices, and flavors of the region.
